Anne Marcellis
Anne Marcellis of Sam Quilt Designs
Award winning, Anne Marcellis of Sam Quilt Designs, learned about quilting in 2001 after years of sewing clothes for herself and her children. Then her journey started when she made her first wall quilt and secured the mitered borders with super glue! It ignited a passion in her that hasn’t slowed down. Her techniques have improved significantly, to the point of designing her own patterns, teaching and speaking to guilds in Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Georgia, South Carolina, Minnesota, Alabama, Ohio, Tennessee and Texas . She also judges. Anne has become proficient in many different free motion quilting techniques and has taught a 10 session class, 3 hours each all done on a domestic sewing machine. She has won many show ribbons, People’s Choice Awards and Best of Show awards at quilt shows. 3 winning quilts have been featured in the 2019, 2023 and soon the 2025 Quilt Art Engagement Calendar by American Quilter’s Society in Paducah, KY.
Anne’s work features lots of vibrant colors and movement. Her unique designs and patterns are written with the novice in mind with lots of details and diagrams. Anne’s patterns have been published in American Quilter, Fons & Porter Love of Quilting and Minnesota, Florida and Texas Shop Hop magazines as well as “Quilting Books, Patterns and Notions” online catalog. She loves “thinking outside the box” and is now experimenting with a more modern and artsy approach to quilting but uses traditional elements in her designs. She also loves trying to develop new techniques that make quilting easier while building confidence. Most of all, she adores all things quilty and stitchy as well as sharing and inspiring her creative processes with other quilters.
Anne is a Christian and is very thankful to Jesus for the talent He's given her. She speaks to guilds about her quilting journey, her free motion quilting journey, and “Everything you never knew about 9 degree rulers” separately. She will take you through her fast paced “Journey to Creative Quilting” that includes lots of TIPS and TRICKS, as well as showing many quilts as examples throughout her presentation, so get out your paper and pen and be ready to learn and be inspired to try new ideas!
